Unlike the 41 videos in the ‘Blender 2.8 Fundamentals’ course, the ‘Grease Pencil Fundamentals’ course was only 14 videos. I finished the whole course in a couple of hours and I learned a lot. Matias Mendiola, teacher of the grease pencil class, was great and really broke down how he made his short western 2D animation.
We’ll get back to Mendiola’s grease pencil class at a later date. (I’ve haven’t really played around with the grease pencil just yet.)
Thanks to YouTube, I got to learn more about Blender. I watched and followed along “Blender 2.8 Tutorial: Simple Animation For Beginners” by Olav3D Tutorials. It was a quick bite sized tutorial that was great for an absolute beginner like myself. The class was a little over 6 minutes but took me about 2 hours to figure everything out.
It is kind of embarrassing to admit that but it’s the honest truth. In the end, I made a quick animation that can be seen below.
There is a couple of different things we had to do in the short animation. We have to move the rectangle from one side of the plane to the other, make the square blocks starting above the plane then fall down, and change the color of the blocks as they move across the plane.
Keeping the momentum going this week, I took another one of Olav3D’s tutorials.
The next class entitled, Blender 2.8 Tutorial: Cloth Animation in EEVEE, was around 15 minutes and a little more difficult than the previous tutorial. The first half of the tutorial I was moving pretty quickly but towards the middle I hit a speed bump.
The final product was to have a dark colored marble table (check), a bowl placed in the center of the table (check) and have a piece of blue cloth move from one side of the table to the next, making sure to go over the bowl. Unfortunately, I did everything right except the last part. The final render of the tutorial can be seen below.
For some reason, when I tried to animate the blue cloth Blender gave me an error message. Since Blender 2.8 is still in the beta phase I just assumed it was a bug flaw. I deleted the current version of the program I had and downloaded the most recent update. Hopefully that bug gets fixed in the near future and no one else had that problem.
However, I am happy with how both of my projects came out.
JJ signing out.
Until next time.
