Week 1: Getting my footing in Blender 2.8 (beta)

I’ve always been interested in animation. Growing up, my favorite animated movie was ‘A Bug’s Life’. Even though Flik was an ant, I could really relate to him not really fitting in. As I got older my love for animation continued to grow. Classics like ‘Toy Story’, ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, ‘The Proud Family’, ‘Static Shock’ and yes even ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ had me hooked. One thing that I noticed as I got older was the common opinion that animation (2D or 3D) was for kids, I personally couldn’t disagree more.

Fast forward to now, I want to learn everything about animation. How do you dive head first into something but not get completely overwhelmed?

I think the answer to that question is taking small bite sized steps EVERY DAY. So like the title suggests I am getting my footing in Blender 2.8 (beta). For those that don’t know Blender is a free open source 2D/3D creation suite. The program “supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline — modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion t racking, video editing and game creation.”

Blender has put out 41 video on their website and on YouTube, that helps absolute beginners like me get around the software. Currently I am on video 12 and have 29 more to go. Everyday I am getting a little more comfortable with this amazing software.

The purpose of the blog is to have a reference to come back to. A year from now, I want to come back to my first blog post and see how far I’ve come.

JJ signing out.

Until next week.
